Exactly a century ago, the construction of this large, attractive MANSION in romantic Gooische Landhuis style began, beautifully situated on an exceptionally generous plot of 11,505 m². And now, 100 years later, this impressive National Monument with 537m² living space is only available for the third time. The house has been carefully integrated into its surroundings and has a high ensemble value. At the front a bit back in relation to the leafy avenue between Laren and Blaricum where a group of pines separates the house from the avenue. At the rear there is an unobstructed view over the park-like garden with its north-south axis, pond and terraces. Adjacent to the nature reserve „Het Goois Natuurreservaat“ with heathland, forest and drifting sand. Strategically located between the charming town of Laren and the old village of Blaricum.
Villa „Oranjestein“ was built between 1919 and 1922 according to a design by architect W. Hamdorff, commissioned by Mr. W. Ouweleen. This is the first assignment for Hamdorff for a large country house in the romantic Gooise country house style. Wouter Hamdorff (1890-1965) worked as an architect mainly in the Gooi area. The influence of the Amsterdam School is strongly present in his work. The traditional buildings of the region served as a starting point for the new country house. Through the use of natural materials (brick, wood and reed), the building integrated into the rural environment.“ Source: rijksmonumenten.nl
The current residents have lived with so much love in this beautiful country house and are now facing a different phase in their lives. The children have ‚flown out‘ and the house, which is truly a family home, deserves a new period of a cozy family life. The combination of location, plot, architecture, living space and layout make this house truly special.
Through the three steps you open the front door to the spacious entrance with cloakroom with toilet and adjoining the study. The living room is garden oriented and what is striking is the beautiful woodwork, the stained glass windows, the original service cabinet and the robust beamed ceiling. Special is the adjoining octagonal „hall“ or small dance hall, with a magnificent height of more than two storeys. There is a fireplace with sofas on both sides and the classical gramophone is certainly in place here. And on the first floor the platform for the orchestra. Then there is the oval dining room. Through the hall you reach the children’s playroom and the kitchen. The kitchen is spacious and comfortable with a rural look and various equipment. Centrally the round dining table and beautiful views over the front garden. Adjacent to the practical utility room with pantry. Through the hall with toilet you have access to the double garage with space for 2 cars. A staircase leads to the attic above the garage.
The first floor has a spacious landing with loft (above the Hall) which provides access to 6 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate toilet. At the rear two bedrooms with balconies and beautiful views over the garden. Adjoining the bathroom with double sink, shower and bath. At the front a bedroom with balcony and the other bedrooms. The second bathroom has double sinks, shower and toilet.
Via the staircase you reach the second floor for guest house or au pair where the 7th bedroom is located and third bathroom. The bathroom has a sink, bath and toilet. There is also a storage room and spacious attic.
The basement with headroom consists of a hall, storage room, wine cellar and there is storage space.
The park-like garden is beautiful, laid out under architecture with north-south axis and partly protected. At the rear side is the elevated terrace with masonry walls with the pond at the bottom of the terrace. The garden is spacious, offers privacy and there is a variety of greenery. The driveway in front of the house offers ample parking for several cars. In the garden is the outbuilding / barn with more than enough storage space.
